Cadent Gas closed the route near The Old Queen’s Head pub after receiving reports of a gas escape on Saturday. Motorists entering Hammersley Lane from London Road said there were no signs warning them of the closure ahead. “A number of our congregation travelled up Hammersley lane to join us and were caught in the difficulties of turning around in order to circumnavigate it via cock lane. “We would like to apologise for the delay in putting extra advance notice signage boards up, to warn road users in advance of the road closure on Hammersley Lane near Church Road, Tyler’s Green.” The spokesperson added: “The road closure is expected to be removed on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning at the latest.
