“Part of the challenge was to canoe from Peebles to Berwick. “This year, we did it to raise funds for a memorial and also support veterans with their mental health through outdoor activity. “The idea was that we would raise funds for a permanent memorial to 11 Commando in Galashiels.” Those involved arrived in Berwick just in time to mark the Minden Day celebrations, which commemorate the British victory at the Battle of Minden in 1759. “The guys on the canoes had come from all sorts of regiments, but they embraced Minden Day as well.”
