Defeated former Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant used her concession statement to boast that she had run an “openly Marxist” campaign for Congress and call for a “militant” movement aimed at overthrowing capitalism. Sawant failed to advance out of Washington’s 9th Congressional District primary, but framed the loss as evidence that a revolutionary Marxist campaign could still build support outside the Democratic Party. Our campaign was by far the strongest ever by an openly Marxist candidate for the U.S. Congress. She then called for “revolutionary socialist campaigns” that do not seek to “help administer the capitalist system,” but instead “fight to overthrow it.” ELECTION UPDATE: Marxist former Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant is going to be even madder at Melissa Chaudhry after the latest ballot drop.
