Little Missenden Parish Council applied to Buckinghamshire Council to add the route between Watchet Lane and Parish Piece to the county’s official map of public rights of way.
But Buckinghamshire Council rejected the application after concluding there was insufficient evidence to establish that the route was a public footpath.
Little Missenden Parish Council has now released a statement regarding the refusal, saying it will consider the decision and the options available before deciding whether further action is appropriate.
“The Parish Council is naturally disappointed by this outcome, particularly given the level of community interest in the route and the evidence submitted by residents.
Little Missenden Parish Council has the right to appeal the decision to the Planning Inspectorate within 28 days.
