Voters in the Elyria City School District will decide whether to approve Issue 17, which is a request for new funding during the Nov. 4 General Election. Elyria Schools has not asked for “new funding” in more than 15 years, according to the school district. On June 4, the Elyria Schools Board of Education voted to place Issue 17 on the ballot. Issue 17 is a 10-year, 4.9-mill emergency levy, according to the Lorain County Board of Elections. “If voters reject the levy, the district will exhaust its reserves by 2029, given inflation and declining state funding,” according to the district.
