The passengers climbed aboard special services in and out of Sharpness as part of a weekend of events marking the 150th anniversary of the first-ever passenger train to Sharpness. Vale of Berkeley Railway (VoBR) held its 'Return to Sharpness' celebration from July 31 to August 2, offering six return trips each day along the Sharpness branch line - a route that last saw regular passenger traffic more than 60 years ago. The trains ran on Network Rail track between Sharpness and Berkeley Road Junction, starting from Oldminster Sidings aboard VoBR’s Class 143 Pacer unit, number 143603. Passengers travelled past the former Berkeley Station and Nuclear Rail Head before reaching the mainline junction and returning to Sharpness. This helped reduce the need for car parking in Sharpness and ensured easy connections with mainline services from Gloucester and Bristol.
