House Speaker Mike Johnson traveled to Vancouver, Washington, to campaign for Republican John Braun while Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez faces a potentially damaging revolt from her own left flank. The visit came just two days after Braun and Gluesenkamp Perez easily advanced from Washington’s top-two primary. “This district is going to help decide the fate of the Republic,” Johnson told supporters. But while Republicans emerged from the primary united around Braun, Gluesenkamp Perez has a much different problem on her hands. Braun consolidated enough Republican support to run essentially even with a two-term incumbent, while more than one in six voters backed a progressive Democrat openly hostile to Gluesenkamp Perez.
