Ampikaipakan Amirthaligam, of The Long Shoot in Nuneaton, appeared before the IW Magistrates' Court on Friday, August 7, for sentencing.
Prosecutor Rachel Coombes told the court Amirthaligam was drunk when he became involved in an argument with his wife in Ryde on April 1.
During the altercation, he slapped his wife, making contact with her ear and the side of her face, causing her pain and a migraine.
Amirthaligam, who was unrepresented in court, told magistrates he was committed to giving up alcohol and did not want to hurt his wife.
Magistrates handed Amirthaligam an 18-month community order, requiring him to complete 120 hours of unpaid work and 25 rehabilitation days.
