Udupi: A case has been registered against Udupi BJP MLA Yashpal Suvarna for allegedly making defamatory and provocative remarks against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during a protest in Udupi, with the ruling Congress in Karnataka demanding swift legal action against the legislator. The complaint further alleged that the MLA invoked the demolition of the Babri Masjid and warned that the Gandhi family’s lineage would face a similar fate. It also accused him of attempting to incite BJP workers against Congress supporters and making derogatory remarks about students protesting over the NEET examination issue. The controversy drew a sharp response from the ruling Congress. Describing the remarks as “hate speech”, Bhandary alleged that personal attacks and threats against political opponents had no place in a democracy.
