The inaugural Pail Merk Mile will be held at Tweedbank Track on Friday, September 11, as the club begins building towards its 125th anniversary celebrations next year. Founded in 1902, Gala Harriers is one of Scotland’s longest-established athletics clubs and will mark the milestone next year. You don’t need to be a member of a running club and you don’t even need to consider yourself a runner. The name Pail Merk draws on a long-standing, good-natured nickname for Galashiels residents. The Pail Merk Mile celebrates our local identity, our sense of humour and our ability to laugh at ourselves.”
