Fire crews across the western United States and Canada spent the weekend racing to protect entire towns as wind-driven wildfires forced more than 100,000 people from their homes and left at least two people dead.
By Sunday the fire had grown from 103 to 136 square kilometers, or roughly 33,600 acres, and B.C.
British Columbia's forests minister said 18 firefighting aircraft rescued more than 50 residents who became cut off by the advancing flames.
"As soon as we can let them back into their homes safely, we will," Nowels said.
Together with the Kaiser Canyon and Modrite fires, the state has now logged more than 650,000 burned acres this year — its worst fire season since 2021.
