The City of Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) has placed its crews on high alert as severe thunderstorms, icy winds and plunging temperatures grip Gauteng, with a weather warning issued by the South African Weather Service (Saws).

Cold snapAccording to Gauteng Weather, the worst of the cold snap in the province is expected on Tuesday, with maximum temperatures at multi-year lows and snow possible in places.
High alertEkurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services spokesperson William Ntladi said the city’s team remains on high alert.
