New Delhi: Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Wednesday announced that the state government has decided to challenge the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee’s (CWRC) directive to release water to Tamil Nadu by filing an appeal before the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA). Speaking to reporters at Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi, Shivakumar said the government has already held discussions with the Advocate General, legal experts and senior officials and is preparing the appeal against the committee’s order. The Karnataka Chief Minister said he had invited Vijay to Bengaluru, stating that guests visiting the state would be received with due respect. Shivakumar further said he had requested the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to personally visit Karnataka’s Cauvery catchment areas to understand the prevailing ground reality. When asked about the long-awaited Karnataka cabinet expansion, Shivakumar said discussions had been held and only the final round of consultations with the Congress high command remained.
