An independent college in Christchurch for young adults with special educational needs is making “reasonable progress” and having a beneficial impact on its students, says an Ofsted inspection team. Futures Autism Unlimited in Magdalen Lane, Christchurch, which operates under the umbrella of charity Autism Unlimited, has 35 learners aged 18-25 receiving high-needs funding. Learners study a preparation for adulthood curriculum, including employment-related courses, and develop skills in English and mathematics. In June they examined the operation in four key areas - leadership and governance; inclusion; curriculum, teaching and training; and safeguarding arrangements – and said they found reasonable progress in all four. They added: “Learners with SEND who have few or no qualifications follow bespoke and flexible curriculum pathways that meet their needs.
