The restaurant traces its beginning to 1954, when the Randel family started serving Boise diners from the original drive-in. Its patties come from family-owned ranchers in the Northwest and are raised without added hormones or antibiotics, according to Big Bun. Big Bun seems more interested in continuing to cook burgers than chasing every one of them. Big Bun currently hand-spins its shakes from vanilla soft serve and lets customers add a flavor of their choice. Big Bun has added a practical upgrade that earlier generations of customers certainly did not have.
