Dry conditions persist along the East Lancashire Railway, and so does the increased fire risk. The decision has been made to suspend steam operation for the foreseeable future until conditions change. The railway has decided, in consultation with local Fire and Rescue Services, to help keep visitors, staff, and the surrounding countryside safe. The railway has stated that it understands this decision may cause some disappointment, but that it is the best decision under the current circumstances. It’s a fantastic opportunity to experience some diesels that may have been overshadowed by steam previously, and it helps the railway continue to run and thus bring steam back in the future.
