ROCHESTER — A Rochester mayoral candidate’s access to the Jeremiah Program’s halls has sparked online controversy and police reports.
The Saturday, Aug. 8, incident was reported shortly after noon, alleging that candidate Ayub Haji-Omar and campaign representatives had accessed the 40-unit building at 2915 Jeremiah Lane NW without a required escort.
ADVERTISEMENTAmanda Grayson, RPD’s crime prevention and communications coordinator, confirmed the Rochester Police Department received a report that a group of people entered a secure building at the Jeremiah Program, but provided no details on the incident.
I was physically confronted and slapped multiple times, and minor volunteers with my campaign, as young as 13, were also physically assaulted during the incident,” the candidate's response stated.
Frantti confirmed local Jeremiah Program Executive Director Ally Hanten Ebert asked Haji-Omar and his four volunteer that they needed to leave on Saturday, but statements did not confirm other details of the incident.
