Vijayawada: MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni), on Wednesday urged the Central Government to provide financial assistance for infrastructure development at the historic Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam, popularly known as the Kanaka Durga Temple.
Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha under Rule 377, he sought Central support to improve facilities for the lakhs of devotees visiting the shrine every year.
The MP informed the House that the temple receives nearly 50,000 devotees daily, with the footfall crossing two lakh pilgrims a day during major festivals.
Despite the heavy rush, he said the temple lacks adequate permanent infrastructure, forcing the administration to rely on temporary arrangements that often inconvenience pilgrims.
He urged the Centre to take immediate steps to sanction the proposed projects.
