The Humboldt County Planning Commission approved parts of a debated McKinleyville U-Haul sign plan, but cut out displays facing Central Avenue that some people found particularly obnoxious, in a tie-breaking compromise Thursday evening.
Previous meetings resulted in a tie or a request to pool more community input on the plan.
County staff reported the planning department had received two voicemails and 19 emails or letters regarding the project, 17 in opposition.
Dale Huber, U-Haul’s manager, pointed out the company could paint real garage doors any color without a sign permit during a brief public comment.
I just don’t think you need to be able to see that from the other side of Central Avenue,” said McFarlane.
