Narasaraopet: Palnadu district collector Krithika Shukla urged farmers to enrol in crop insurance schemes to protect themselves against crop losses due to natural calamities and adverse weather conditions. She reviewed the implementation of crop insurance through a teleconference with officials of Agriculture and Horticulture departments from the Collectorate in Narasaraopet on Wednesday. She said that the deadline for payment of the cotton crop insurance premium has been extended till July 31 and advised all cotton farmers to avail insurance in view of the possible impact of El Niño. She said that paddy, red chilli and red gram are covered under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, while cotton is covered under the Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme. She appealed to all eligible farmers cultivating notified crops to enrol under the respective insurance schemes within the prescribed deadlines.
