Amaravati: A political battle over credit for the Bhogapuram International Airport has intensified ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled inauguration of the project on August 1, with the ruling NDA coalition and the opposition YSRCP staking rival claims over its execution. He alleged that the Chandrababu Naidu government was claiming credit for work substantially completed during the previous regime. He maintained that all key permissions and clearances were secured during the YSRCP government’s tenure and questioned why the present government was projecting a privately developed airport as its own achievement. Health minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav said the project had already received approvals and land acquisition had been substantially completed by 2018 before the change of government. He alleged that after assuming office, the YSRCP government slowed the project by reducing the scope of land acquisition and showed little interest in taking it forward.
