Microsoft has reportedly increased the price of Windows OEM licenses for PC manufacturers, adding another expense to a market already dealing with rising hardware costs.
According to Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, the licensing adjustment took effect in July 2026 and averages between 7 and 10 percent.
The report cites executives working for PC brands, who say Microsoft normally revises its OEM licensing fees every year.
Agreements between Microsoft and manufacturers are generally confidential, making it difficult to determine the exact Windows cost attached to an individual computer.
It should not be confused with the separate 7-to-10-percent adjustment reportedly applied to Windows licensing fees.
