Sort Health, a not-for-profit ADHD assessment service in Yorkshire, argues that the debate distracts from the real issue of lengthy waiting times for diagnosis and care.
Mathew Sidebottom, managing director of Sort Health, said: "We set Sort up to help with exactly that gap.
Sort Health is delivered by Bevan Community Benefit Society and provides assessments across the UK.
Mr Sidebottom said that while modern life presents many distractions, ADHD has been recognised by clinicians since long before the rise of smartphones and social media.
The service does not seek to replace the NHS but aims to support those facing long delays.
