Belle Vue Park is my favourite – not least because I lived about 50 yards from it when my kids were little. Set across 26 acres pretty much bang in the middle of Newport, it’s a prime example of a Victorian public park. It offers lovely walks, a brilliant tea room, tennis courts, a bowls green and a bandstand. A 30-acre site sandwiched between Chepstow Road and Christchurch Road, it has been open as a public park since 1900. To the west of the city, on either side of Cardiff Road heading towards the M4, you’ll find Tredegar House Country Park and Tredegar Park.
