An Australian crew featuring sailors from the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club and Cruising Yacht Club of Australia has won the 2026 11 Metre One Design World Championship at Hankø Yacht Club in Norway.
Mark Griffith and Michael Lockley have been sailing 11 Metre One Designs at RPAYC for approximately five years, providing valuable class-specific knowledge.
Tom Spithill and Mal Richardson added considerable experience of their own, despite having only sailed the 11 Metre One Design a few times previously.
He had sailed at Hankø four years earlier at the 5.5 Metre World Championship with Mark Tolhurst, in the year fellow RPAYC member John Bacon won the title.
The combination of good starts, smart positioning, strong downwind sailing and polished crew work ultimately delivered the Australians the 2026 11 Metre One Design World Championship title.
