MRCs, including the Val-St-François, have been consulting with taxpayers as they prepare to draft guidelines for the installation of wind farms in their jurisdictions. Many in the Richmond area will remember that, a quarter century ago, a private wind power producer inquired if the St. Cyr Valley, that lies between Richmond and Danville, might not be an advantageous site to install several wind turbines. Unlike these three designs, the tall, white, wind turbines that have been popping up above treetops in Quebec over the last few decades are horizontal axis windmills. The largest concentration of wind turbines in Quebec is also the site of the tallest Darrieus windmill mentioned above. It is considered the birthplace of wind energy in Quebec.
