Australian households could be missing out on thousands of dollars in electricity bill relief and home energy savings simply because they don’t know they are eligible. Depending on the scheme, Australians with a pensioner concession card, Centrelink health care card, Department of Veterans’ Affairs card or Commonwealth Seniors Health Card could be eligible. Eligible concession cardholders and seniors can receive up to $399 off their electricity bills, as well as up to $96 off gas bills. An air conditioning rebate worth $79 a month is also available to eligible households for between two and 10 months, depending on where they live. Canstar data shows households in Brisbane could save as much as $456 a year by moving to the lowest-priced electricity plan available.
