By Saturday night, the fire burned more than 6,500 acres and burned more than 11,000 acres by Sunday evening.
The fire had also spread into neighboring Sierra County and into Washoe County in Nevada, north of the city of Reno.
“Thousands of Nevadans have been forced from their homes as these fires continue to threaten communities across Washoe County and the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony,” said Governor Joe Lombardo.
Over the weekend, evacuation orders were issued for areas north of the community of Cold Springs, about 20 miles northwest of Reno, and north of the Reno Stead Airport.
Monday evening, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office added new mandatory evacuation orders for the area of Winnemucca Ranch Road and urged residents to evacuate immediately.
