Gavin Newsom announced Friday he will not work to renew licenses to keep Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant in San Luis Obispo County operating beyond 2030. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced in April it had approved the renewal of the operating licenses of the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant for an additional 20 years. “That is why we are writing to encourage the Legislature to extend Diablo Canyon Power Plant (DCPP) operations to 2045 this year.” Following the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s April announcement, Newsom issued a statement commending the approval of the Diablo Canyon license renewals.
