Environmental advocates and students from Christ the King College and Northwest Samar State University in Calbayog City, Samar held a peace rally on Monday, August 3, to call for the review of Vena Energy’s Gemini Wind Power Project.
The turbines were originally planned inside the Calbayog Pan-as Hayiban Protected Landscape (CPHPL).
After opposition to building within it, Vena Energy agreed to reapply for a new Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) and moved the site.
But advocates later learned that at least three turbines will still rise upstream of Tarangban Falls, a popular destination in a city known as the “City of Waterfalls.”
