The collision, involving a car and a lorry, took place near Colchester United Football Club and led to the closure of the A12 in both directions. The southbound carriageway has since reopened, but the northbound route remains shut. A National Highways spokesman said: "The A12 northbound remains closed between J27 and J28 while Essex Police continue their investigation. "The closure will remain in place until later this evening for ongoing Essex Police investigation, recovery and clear-up work." Continue north on the A1232 to rejoin the A12 at junction 29.
