The Asotin County Sheriff’s Office is hoping to be part of a new program that would have a drone in the air when necessary for community safety. During today’s County Commissioners meeting, Undersheriff Blake Richards explained he’ll apply for the $200,000 grant that would cover the equipment, including a drone, as well as education for a pilot. He says it would provide eyes in the air when deputies need help finding someone, and he says the live video could be sent back to the computers in deputies’ vehicles, or possibly dispatchers who can relay the information. He says the drone itself would be controlled by a Sheriff’s Office employee, likely a jail staff member. So, they’re able to get in the air in 90 seconds.”
