Crews complete Alfreton Tunnel track renewal
['Tom Pashby']
New Civil Engineer
Half a kilometre of track renewals at the Alfreton Tunnel in Derbyshire, between Sheffield and Nottingham, have been completed by Network Rail.
The works that took place inside the tunnel were carried out using mobile ventilation systems to ensure airflow for the engineers.
The works took place on the weekend of 8 August, which were enabled by amended train services and rail replacement buses.
“I’m grateful to everyone involved in delivering the project safely and efficiently, and to passengers for planning ahead while the work took place.”
Works will include the renewal of 495m of drainage at Alfreton to help prevent flooding during periods of heavy rainfall, supporting safer, more reliable services for passengers.
