Vaping in pregnancy linked to infant deaths – Expert Reaction
[]
Science Media Centre
An increasing proportion of unexplained infant deaths are happening while bed-sharing with parents, and a study suggests vaping has a role to play.
It is important to realise that vaping is not an acceptable alternative when it comes to SUDI risk.
Smoking, vaping, dual use and infant sleep practices can also overlap, making their individual effects difficult to separate.
Ideally pregnancy should be smoke-, vape- and nicotine-free, while people who smoke during pregnancy should continue to be supported with evidence-based cessation treatment.”
While we are still learning what the mechanisms are linking smoking and vaping to SUDI, we do know that vaping causes harm to babies.
