For the past year, SF Pretrial has been fighting for its life after the San Francisco Superior Court’s leadership pushed to end the nonprofit’s contract with the city following a financial mismanagement scandal. In July, Mayor Daniel Lurie sided with the courts and all but guaranteed SF Pretrial’s death, according to interim CEO Matt Miller. Former San Francisco Pretrial Diversion Program CEO David Mauroff, left, resigned in July and was replaced by interim CEO Matt Miller. The transition will be headed by former collaborative court head Melanie Kushner, aided by former SF Pretrial staffers who have been hired by Adult Probation. Still, some SF Pretrial supporters, like Sheriff Paul Miyamoto, who has praised the work of the nonprofit and accused the courts of citing faulty statistics to kill the organization, said he would support the transition.
