A Shrewsbury councillor has welcomed plans to convert a former vape shop on Castle Foregate in Shrewsbury into a new apartment, following concerns from local residents and enforcement action against previous tenants.
Councillor Alex Wagner in Castle Foregate, ShrewsburyThe former tenants of 35–37 Castle Foregate were reportedly evicted following Trading Standards raids and concerns about “improper activities”.
“Crime and anti-social behaviour have been falling in Shrewsbury Town Centre, helped enormously by getting a police base back in town, but keeping our streets safe is a constant effort and we can’t be complacent.
Castle Foregate is an ideal location for a new apartment, within easy walking distance of the railway station, shops, jobs and other services.
Bringing an existing and underused building back into use is a sensible way to provide those homes while supporting the regeneration of Castle Foregate.”
