This is for the sake of public safety, according to Flock Safety, one of the most popular companies in the U.S. for automated license plate readers, or ALPRs. Flock Safety said in a statement that a Flock alert in June helped Houston-area law enforcement identify a vehicle tied to a robbery. A Pasadena police sergeant resigned after allegedly using Flock cameras to track and stalk a fellow officer. Also, Baytown police are investigating an officer for potential misuse of Flock data, but have not detailed the specific allegations. In its statement, Flock Safety said it condemns this type of behavior while noting that damaging public safety equipment is illegal and puts the community at risk.
