Belize has received a total of eight asylum seekers under its Safe Third Country Agreement with the United States. On August 5th, the ministry indicated that the process was continuing but did not confirm whether additional asylum seekers were expected to arrive in the country. The agreement, formally known as the Agreement for Cooperation Regarding the Examination of Protection Requests, was signed between Belize and the United States in October 2025. When asylum seekers arrive in Belize, the Ministry of Immigration oversees the process. With the agreement now being implemented, the number of additional asylum seekers who may be transferred to Belize remains to be seen.
