Last Friday, the Treasury Department and the IRS issued Notice 2026-48 announcing their intention to propose regulations regarding the federal Saver's Match program for 2027.
The program was enacted as part of the SECURE 2.0 Act and replaces the older Saver's Credit for retirement savings contributions.
"Millions of low- and moderate-income Americans will have the opportunity to strengthen their retirement savings through the Saver's Match program," said IRS CEO Frank Bisignano in a statement.
"The Saver's Match makes saving easier and more rewarding by providing a direct federal contribution to an eligible taxpayer's retirement account.
The notice is an important first step in implementing President Trump's executive order with respect to the Saver's Match program."
