The death toll of the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck western Colombia on the morning of Aug. 10 increased to at least 111 people by the afternoon. Before the Aug. 10 earthquake, Colombia experienced two other earthquakes of magnitude 7 or higher within 155 miles of the most recent earthquake, USGS stated. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed the Trump administration’s support for Colombia following the Aug. 10 earthquake. “The Trump Administration is closely monitoring the large earthquake that struck Colombia and stands ready to support the people of Colombia and President @ABDELAESPRIELLA’s Administration,” he wrote in a post on social media. “American citizens in Colombia should enroll at http://STEP.State.gov and follow @USEmbassyBogota’s social media accounts for the latest information.”
