Angela L. Malagise, age 73, formerly of Freedom, passed away Sunday, August 9th, 2026, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Angela was a 1972 graduate of Freedom Area High School, who completed her academic career before women’s athletics were a staple in high schools. In fact, the first women’s basketball team at Freedom women’s basketball team at Freedom was not formed until the year after she graduated. Despite the lack of formal training and organized women’s teams, Angela’s love of sports and her athletic prowess led her to achieve many Beaver County Women’s “first’s”. For nearly twenty-five years Malagise was a WPIAL referee, the first female member of the Beaver County Basketball Chapter of Referees.
