Tony Evers is asking for federal help conducting damage assessments required to obtain federal aid in response to the EF-3 tornado that ripped through the Fox Valley late last month. On Monday, the governor’s office announced the request to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, for assistance in completing a formal federal preliminary damage assessment. According to the governor’s office, the formal preliminary damage assessment is conducted after an initial local and state damage assessment. In an email, Karoline Hopfensperger, emergency management specialist for Winnebago County, said the county completed its preliminary damage assessments on Friday. A spokesperson for Wisconsin Emergency Management said via email the preliminary damage assessment gives “a snapshot of the magnitude of damage and does not reflect the entire amount of damage.”
