Turkish police on Tuesday detained five people over a 2015 attack on a bus carrying players and staff of İstanbul’s Fenerbahçe football club, Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced. The detentions took place after investigators reopened a case that had previously ended without charges. As part of the investigation led by prosecutors in Turkey’s northwestern Trabzon province, police searched their homes and seized material. On April 4, 2015, two shots fired from a shotgun struck the bus as the team traveled to Trabzon airport after a 5-1 away victory over Çaykur Rizespor in Turkey’s top division. Fenerbahçe expressed approval of Tuesday’s detentions and demanded that those responsible for planning or executing the assault be identified and prosecuted.
