Michigan roadway deaths fell in 2025, but total crashes were up, according to numbers from the Michigan State Police. The MSP Criminal Justice Information Center reported 1,065 overall roadway fatalities in 2025, a 3% drop from 1,099 deaths in 2024. According to crash data, distracted driving-involved fatalities fell 32%, from 65 in 2024 to 44 in 2025. Drug-involved fatalities also dropped 23%, from 272 to 210, and teen fatalities among people ages 13-19 decreased 21%, from 77 deaths in 2024 to 61 in 2025, data showed. Other areas of progress include:Alcohol-involved fatalities – declined 14% from 307 to 264Work zone fatalities – down 14% from 28 to 24Motorcyclist fatalities – declined 10% from 168 to 151At the same time, data showed total crashes increased by 0.5% percent, rising to 290,221 in 2025 from 288,880 the year before.
