Special to the Brockville Recorder and TimesThe 40th annual 1000 Islands Poker Run took place over the weekend with the highlight for Brockville being the noon arrival of the boats into the harbour for their lunch break on Saturday, and their 2 p.m. departure.
The Poker Run is not a race but a run of chance, with the winner’s poker hand being the determining element.
The run – card number one – began at 10:15 a.m. in Kingston with the rev of their powerful engines electrifying the waterfront atmosphere.
Card number two was picked up in Ivy Lea by 11 a.m.Brockville spectators gathered in large crowds both for the noon arrival and the 2 p.m. start.
The runners arrived in Brockville – number three – just as the fickle weekend skies opened with a torrent of rain at noon.
