ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. (WCAX) – Dozens of people were evacuated from an apartment building at Evergreen Place Apartments just after midnight Tuesday. Residents reported seeing smoke from the roof of an apartment building on Pearl Street. Essex Junction Fire Chief Richard Smith told WCAX that when crews arrived on scene, they saw flames coming from the roof of the building, reaching about 20-feet in the air. Crews from Burlington, Jericho, Saint Michael’s, Underhill, Hinesburg, and Winooski fire were called to respond. Fire Chief Smith said two firefighters were checked for minor injuries before returning to duty.
