Residents reported seeing smoke from the roof of an apartment building on Pearl Street. Essex Junction Fire Chief Richard Smith told WCAX News that when crews arrived on scene, they saw flames coming from the roof of the building, reaching about 20 feet in the air. Fire Chief Smith said two firefighters were checked for minor injuries before returning to duty. The owner of the apartment building said they believe a lightning strike may have sparked the fire.
