People didn’t tend to take the band’s music very seriously; in fact, John Lennon once said to them, “I think you’re the greatest comic talent since the Marx Brothers.
Once the TV programme ended, The Monkees were able to write music and not be quite as restricted as the confines of the show allowed.
That being said, the music that was written during the TV runtime was hardly the most inspiring.
When The Beatles made it big, you had artists and byproducts of corporate suits milling to follow them to stardom.
