Senate aims to prevent highway bill from running out of fuel

With the current highway bill set to expire in less than two months, the Senate wants to buy some more time.
With a vote of 90-6, the Senate advanced an extension of the current surface transportation reauthorization bill on Saturday, Aug. 8.
The current highway bill is set to expire on Sept. 30, giving Congress about 50 days to find a solution.
House T&I bill stalledIn May, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee advanced the BUILD America 250 Act, a $580 billion highway bill package that addresses a variety of pro-trucker issues.
Meanwhile, the Senate has made little to no progress on coming up with a highway bill of its own.
