Rendering of the European sixth-generation FCAS fighter @AirbusIndia has initiated efforts to join France’s Future Combat Air System (FCAS), signaling a preference for the French-led sixth-generation fighter programme over the rival British-Italian-Japanese Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP). However, the FCAS India is seeking to join has changed significantly. This project was originally conceived by France, Germany and Spain around a New Generation Fighter (NGF), unmanned remote carriers and a combat cloud. France is now expected to pursue its future fighter under Dassault, while Germany and Spain continue their own effort. The parliamentary committee has asked the Defence Ministry for a status report, roadmap and timeline for India’s sixth-generation fighter plans.
